After the big success of Monkey Island - Special Edition, Lucasarts announced Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge, due to be released in Summer 2010, coming for the iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The remake was announced by Lucasarts during their annual Game Developers Conference party held at the Farimont hotel, where the creators of the adventures, Ron Gilbert, Tim Schaefer and Dave Grossman, were also invited.

During the conference President Darrell Rodriguez said, "The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features.... We're adding even more great new features in this sequel and can't wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever."

Among the features it includes:

• All new re-imagined high definition animated graphics using contemporary art style, hand-drawn to feature animation quality.
• Re-mastered music score presented in full orchestrated mode.
• Complete voice over using the original Monkey Island franchise cast.
• The possibility of switching with a seamless transition between special edition and classic modes anywhere and at any time.
• All-new direct control option allows players to control Guybrush directly if they choose.
• Revamped hint system highlights objects of interest in the environment.
• In-game audio commentary from the game's creator gives players direct insight into select scenes of the game.
• Bonus art viewer lets players view original and new concept art used in the making of the game.
• Character voiceover available in both Special Edition and Classic modes.

They also announced that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will soon be available for digital download on the PS3, Mac and PC.
