Baxter State Park is an almost 210,000 acre (about 850 km2) area of wilderness in the Piscataquis County (northern third of Maine), home of high mountains, woodland, lakes and ponds. It was established in 1931.

Within the park's limits there are about 215 miles (aproximately 345 kms) of trails as well as 46 peaks and ridges, among those peaks the impressive Mount Katahdin.
