Northeast Harbor in Mount Desert Island - Maine
Northeast Harbor is a little town with an aproximate population of 2,000. It is located on the eastern half of Mount Desert Island on the eastern shore of the entrance to Somes Sound.
Its harbor is home of exclusive yachts and sailing vessels. In spite of its small size, it offers a big range of commercial options, from boutiques and galleries to restaurants.
Some of its main attractions include the Asticou Azalea Garden (a Japanese styled garden blended with common characteristics of this part of Maine's rocky coastline), the Thuya Garden (an enchanted garden located on a granite hillside off the Peabody Drive section of Route 3 east of Northeast Harbor), and the 35 acre (14.1 hectares) Upper Hadlock Pond (a freshwater body surrounded by mountains with hiking trails).
