Location information

IP addresses: When you visit the YouBioit.com website, we automatically receive the IP address of the device or of the proxy server you are using to access the Internet. Your IP address may be used to infer your aproximate geographical location. We keep IP addresses confidential, except as provided in this Privacy Policy. For example, if you visit YouBioit.com without logging into your User Account, your IP address used at the time will be permanently recorded. If you are visiting YouBioit.com with your mobile device, we may use your IP address to provide anonymized or aggregated information to Internet service providers for statistical purposes regarding the volume of service usage in certain areas. We use IP addresses for research, to better personalize content, notices, and website settings for you. We also use IP addresses to fight spam, identity theft, malware, and other kinds of abuse; and to provide better mobile and other applications.

When we mention that we infer your approximate geographical location, we mean it, since we assume your location at the center of the most precise area data associated with your IP address. The only possible area data associated with your IP address are: postal code, city, region, or country. Unless you are positioned exactly in the geographical middle of the most specific area data associated with your IP address (for example, your postal code or your city), the data we retrieve is unlikely to be good enough to learn the exact position you are standing on.

GPS & Other Types of Location Technologies: Some features offered by YouBioit.com work better if we know what area you are located in. But it is completely up to you whether or not you want us to use geolocation tools to make some features available to you. If you consent, we may use GPS (as well as other technologies commonly used to determine geographical location) to show you more relevant content. We keep information obtained by these technologies confidential, except as provided in this Privacy Policy. If you access YouBioit.com on your laptop, desktop, or device without a GPS, these features will use your information from your browser to figure out your aproximate location for statistical purposes, and sometimes in order to show you articles about places and things near you or related to your interests and cultural background.

Metadata: Sometimes, we may automatically receive location data from your device or from the media you upload to our website. For example, if you want to upload a photo to YouBioit.com, we may receive metadata, such as the place and time you took the photo, automatically from your device. Please be aware that, unlike location information collected using GPS signals, the default setting on your mobile device typically includes the metadata in your photo upload to YouBioit.com . If you do not want metadata sent to us and made public at the time of your upload, please change the settings on your device or remove metadata from your photos before uploading them to YouBioit.com .

Additional information we gather

Social buttons: On many of the Web pages of YouBioit.com there are ‘social buttons’. These social buttons enable users and visitors to share or bookmark the articles or images published on those webpages. There are buttons for: Facebook, Twitter, Google +1, LinkedIn ‘Share’, Tumblr, and Pinterest. In order to implement these buttons, and connect them to the social networks and external sites they belong to, there are scripts from domains outside of YouBioit.com . You should be aware that these websites are likely to be gathering information about what you are doing on the Internet, including on YouBioit.com . So if you click on any of these buttons, these sites will be registering that action and may use that information they collect. In some cases, these external websites will be registering the fact that you are visiting YouBioit.com, and the specific webpages you are on, even if you don’t click on the button when you are logged into their services, like Google, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest. You should check the respective policies of each of these websites to see how exactly they use the information they collect from you, and to find out how to opt out, or delete such information.

Email tracking: When you share an article or image from our website to another person, the address of the webpage where that article or image is published on, is shared by email. When you recommend the services of YouBioit.com, the address of our website is shared by email too. We request your email address so that the person you are recommending our website, the article, or the image to, knows that you wanted them to see it, and that it is not junk mail.

Liking or unliking articles and images: When you like or unlike an article or image by clicking on the thumbs up or thumbs down icon, YouBioit.com collects information about your IP address and the time you clicked the thumbs up or thums down button.

Adding articles to your favorites list: When you add an article or image to your favorites list, YouBioit.com may collect information about your IP address and the time you added that article or image to the favorites list.

Polls: When you vote on any of the different types of polls available in YouBioit.com, we collect information about your IP address, the choice you voted, and the time you published your vote. Your vote choice and your username are publicly displayed in the poll results page.

A cookie is a small file (sometimes encrypted) which asks permission to be installed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyze web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can adapt its operations to your requirements, likes and dislikes by collecting and remembering information about your preferences.

We operate an ‘implied consent’ policy which means that we assume you are happy with our use of cookies. If you are not happy, then you should either not use this website at all, or you should delete our cookies once you have visited YouBioit.com, or you should browse our website using your browser’s anonymous usage setting (known as “Incognito” in Chrome, “InPrivate” in Internet Explorer, “Private Browsing” in Firefox and Safari).

We use anonymous visitors and registered users log cookies to identify which webpages are being used. This helps us analyze data about webpage traffic and performance, and thus improve our website in order to adapt it to user and visitor needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Cookies are files which are created when a user’s browser loads a website. The website sends specific information to the user’s browser. Once received this information, the browser creates a text file. Every time the user returns to the same website, the browser sends this file to the website’s server. These Cookies are created not just by the website the user is visiting but also by other websites that run ads, widgets, or other elements shown on the webpage being browsed. These cookies manage how the ads appear, or how the widgets or other elements function on the webpage when a user loads it.

Cookies help us provide you a better service by enabling us to find out which webpages you find useful and which ones you do not. A Cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. However, if you refuse cookies, you may not take full advantage of this website.

If you don’t want to load cookies in your browser, you can modify your browser preferences so that it notifies you when cookies are sent to it or you can refuse cookies altogether. You can also delete cookies that have already been installed in your browser.

If you want to block web browser cookies which are installed on your computer or mobile device, you can do this through your browser settings or preferences. The Help option of your browser probably tells you how to do it. We also recommend you to visit www.aboutcookies.org, which contains comprehensive information on how to block or decline cookies on a wide variety of desktop browsers. For further information on how to block or decline cookies, you can also visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

What type of cookies does YouBioit.com use?

Without session cookies, a user going from one webpage to the other, is treated by the website as a completely new visitor. We use persistent cookies in order to remember your information for the next time you visit us again. With persistent cookies you can access more quickly and easily, without having to open a new session when you visit YouBioit.com again. Persistent cookies are installed when you select the “Remember me” option of the log-in area.

If you don’t want to see ads in YouBioit.com, you should not use this website at all since the revenues of YouBioit.com come from advertising and they cannot and should not be turned off. For more information on Google AdSense usage of cookies see: How AdSense uses cookies.

You can find out more about Google Double Click here.

Slideshow player cookies:

We use a slideshow player in the image pages which may use special cookies. This slideshow player is based on Adobe Flash so it may use additional cookies. Adobe uses its own cookies to remember your preferences and track your browsing. You can learn more about these Adobe Flash cookies on the Adobe website.

User Account registration and information

You are not required to create a User Account to read articles or watch images posted by other users, except under specific circumstances (for example when an article has access restrictions). However, in order to post content to YouBioit.com you are required to create a User Account.

When creating a User Account, we require your first name, your surname, your country of origin, your state/province of origin, your city of origin, your gender, your date of birth, your E-mail address, your username and a password. We need all this personal information for security reasons, for a better understanding of the demographics of our users, to localize our services, and to learn how we can improve our services. If you do not wish to display publicly any of the personal data mentioned in this paragraph, you can choose not to display them publicly. But in case you don’t wish to share at all any of the data mentioned in this paragraph, neither with other users nor with us, you should not create a User Account at all in YouBioit.com .

Your username will be publicly visible, so please be careful about using your real name as your username if you don’t wish to display your real name publicly. Your IP address is also automatically submitted to us, and we record it temporarily to help prevent abuse.

You can edit and modify your personal information of your User Info page at any time.

To get a better understanding of the demographics of our users, optionally, you can add further information, such as your Education Level, the Languages you speak, your Interests, your Hobbies, your Favorite Music Style, your Favorite Sports and Teams, your Favorite Movies, your Favortie TV Shows and Series, your Favorite Books, your Profession, your Career Field, your Professional Background/Experience, your Professional Interests/Aims, and the name of your Website in case you have one. Providing such personal information is completely optional, so if you don’t want to provide us with that information you don’t have to.

Once created, user accounts cannot be deleted by you. This is because your public content (articles, images, polls) must be associated with their author, in this case you. So make sure you choose a name that you will be comfortable with in the future.

In case you wish to close your User Account, you can contact us, and ask for your User Account deletion. As soon as reasonably possible, we will close your User Account and remove your personal information from view, based on your User Account activity. If your User Account is deleted, the contributions published by you are not removed (those contributions include articles, images, and polls) unless the main topic of any or all of those contributions is you and your life (for example, a biography about yourself, an article about your business, photos of your vacations, etc). We can only remove your contributions (articles, images, photoalbums or polls) if their main topic is about yourself or your life. In order to delete your contributions, you must ask for their deletion when you contact us to close your User Account. If you do not agree with one or more of the conditions mentioned in this paragraph, you should not create a User Account in YouBioit.com .

Nevertheless, you should be aware that while you still have your User Account in YouBioit.com, you can manually delete your contributions. So if you want your contributions to be deleted when you ask for your User Account deletion, you should delete them before asking for your User Account deletion.
